Aloha all,

The Velvet half of Dan and Velvet's Kona opted for a life more worthy of her.
It now only Dan's Kona.
This is the last photo I have of the one I once loved, the one that got away.

One of our summer '10 projects: 40' long curving concrete walk in the front yard.
Look at these strange things. It's some kind of weed that grows along the road where we walk daily.
They're thin like little balloons, full of air or other gas under pressure.
Dan's magic spirit rain maker. Still trying to get it correctly tuned.

Resident of our kitchen, and good buddy Greenie, prefers boysenberry jam with the seeds in. Loves bugs too.
And he's really quite interested in us and what's going on.
Greenie, quite the gentleman, thanks me for the snack.
July 5, 2010

Aloha all,

We're here on island again since June 6, 2010. The drought goes on. We've had only an inch of rain this month, 1/4 - 1/5 of normal. Our friends hand watered for us the two months we were on the mainland so things look ok still. At this writing friends Doug and Pam of Indio have come and gone, having stayed 3 days. We all went on a kayak picnic at Kealekekua Bay and swam amongst some playful dolphins. So cool.
Star Fruit from the back yard.
Beautiful day for a luau. Fortunately we put up an additional plastic tarp above the table and seating as we did get wonderfully rained on during dinner.
Readying for luau gathering. What a lovely presentation.
Getting it together for luau.

Creating the design for an ipu.
Drawing on the design.
Carving the ipu.
Ipu now drys for 2 weeks or so at which time the top is cut off and it is filled with coffee. After another 6 weeks the coffee and innards are removed, and stink, perhaps where it's name comes from. And so then the the coffee has stained the areas where the skin was not carved off. This ipu is shown finished in a later post.
Some flowers behind the house.
